My Writing Comes From The Heart

Wow, I am blown away by this weekend’s events. The weekend started with a fabulous day at the Nourished food blogger conference. I learned so much from each session, nourished my body with delicious food, and was able to connect with so many wonderful people in the gluten free/ allergy free community.

Post # 15 of the Wego Health Challenge is titled:  Writing with Style. What’s your writing style? Do words just flow from your mind to your fingertips? Do you like handwriting first? Do you plan your posts? Title first or last? Where do you write best?

Nourished inspired me, got my creative juices going, and challenged me to answer  questions about myself and blog. A  common message of the day was to Be You. Trust yourself and be authentic and genuine with your readers. I’d like to think I do this when I write my posts. I believe this happens because I write in the moment. My hope is that through each new post you get to know a little more about my story and hear my voice. Though I am behind a screen, I want each post to feel like we are having a conversation. (So please, leave comments, tell me what you think, and ask me questions – whether it be here, on my facebook page or on Twitter!)

When I write I want to connect with my readers. Though I want to reach all that are affected by the spectrum of gluten-related disorders, I especially want to connect with all the gluten-free college students.

College is a stressful, exciting, and enriching. It is an experience that I different then any thing I have ever gone through.College is special because you grow as a person and are pushed to limits that you never thought were possible.  I am not the same person that I was when I first step foot on campus. A lot of growth, learning, and reflection happened. I am a better person for choosing to attend Scranton.

The same is true in relation to my blog. My blog has grown as I have grown as a writer. When I first started I thought it would be a place to share family recipes, products reviews, and give a perspective of what it’s like being GF in college. While my blog captures each element, I believe it has become much more then I envisioned.

Do I plan my posts? Sometimes
Do I pre-write posts? It Depends (working ahead is sometimes the only way a busy college student can get it done!)

I usually have an ideas floating in my head. However, most of the time  I’m completely surprised with where I go with the idea. Sometimes I love my title, other times I change it three or four times until it is perfect (the perfectionist in me). Writing takes me out of my element.Whether it be while sitting in my dorm room, or when am lounging outside on a beautiful sunny day.

One of the presenters at Nourished, Mary Fran Wiley, said

“Have Fun. If your brand {blog} is a Chore, it’s not you”

I have come to learn that blogging is a lot of work. That being said, it is something that brings me so much joy. I am continuously thinking of new ideas, not only to keep it fun and interesting for myself, but my goal has always been to creating an atmosphere that my readers want to come back to. Never has my blog felt like something I had to do; its truly from the heart. I hope my writing illustrates that. I am motivated to continue each day because of your support, and because I am so passionate about our community.

So after all this rambling, do I consider myself to have a writing style? Not really. As I grow, my writing grows, but I would like to believe that through all the growth, my writing has continued to be honest, genuine, and authentic

What do you think of my Writing Style? Is there anything you want to see in the future?
